Let's Choose to "Do The Next Thing"

When the world feels like it’s spinning out of control, what does a person do? With so many uncertainties looming larger than life, we are left wondering how to navigate through what we’re facing day-to-day and what could be lying ahead.

I have great news. We don’t have to try to figure it out. We can have confidence that God isn’t up in Heaven wringing His hands, trying to develop a plan. He already has a plan, and if we are His own we can have assurance that we’re part of that plan. I must confess I’m not a great waiter. I like to have some idea of what’s up ahead. I think it must be a control issue. Do you ever feel impatient, waiting on the Lord to change the situation you’re in that’s making you uneasy or uncomfortable? Your answer is probably yes. I’d love to hear how you have worked through that. As these days have visited us with what feels like a chaotic whirlwind, I’ve learned to slow down. I deliberately choose to embrace the beauty in each day and make a conscious effort to listen closely for God’s voice instead of all the voices around me, each one saying something different, that want to take up precious space in my brain. I’m resting in the wonderful freedom of doing the next thing instead of trying to figure out what we may be facing down the road.

So this morning, I send encouragement to all who are walking in shoes that feel like they don’t fit comfortably anymore. Let’s just be willing to look at our life, express gratefulness to the Lord for all He has done and continues to do, and after you ask the Lord what it is He’d have you do …just do the next thing. I promise it will help us face these uncertain days with a new sense of peace.

Let’s get started together. Every day is a new beginning. Make today count. We can do this because Jesus has us in the palm of His nail-scarred hands. Grateful beyond words… On this journey together, Deb
